The security deposit amount tends to vary by car category or location since the supplier calculates it based on the risk associated with the vehicle, while also taking local conditions and insurance requirements into consideration. The driver’s age can also influence the deposit amount if falling under the Young/Senior Driver category.

For example, deposits for high-value cars like SUVs at major airports or luxury cars at tourist spots are generally higher. Whereas economy cars in small cities usually have lower deposits.

Can my deposit be blocked in local currency but released in another currency?

Yes, the security deposit can be blocked in local currency and released in another. When the supplier holds the deposit on the main driver’s credit card, the amount is charged in the local currency of the location.

Note: Due to the currency conversion, you may see a slight difference in the blocked and released deposits. The released amount is calculated based on the current conversion rates; therefore, if the sum seems less than what was deposited, this would be the reason. The supplier releases the exact amount unless some necessary deductions are to be made.
